Windows 10 has Wi-Fi Direct, a wireless connection system that makes it easy to connect devices. Do you want to transfer data from PC to Laptop? It was easy. Do you need to set up wireless printing? Connect the phone to the computer?

All this is very easy thanks to Wi-Fi Direct. Here’s how to transfer files wirelessly using Wi-Fi Direct in Windows 10.

Wi-Fi Direct for PC: Transfer Files Wireless

Wi-Fi Direct can be considered as a type of Bluetooth via Wi-Fi. That is, it has the same “detection and transmission” features as Bluetooth, but the data is transmitted over a wireless network. As you can imagine, this speeds up file transfers.

Bluetooth has been used since 1994 and is useful for transmitting audio and connectivity devices, but not for transferring large files. Wi-Fi Direct is addressing this issue and will replace Bluetooth in the coming years.

At this stage, Wi-Fi Direct is not as common as Bluetooth.

However, when used successfully, it is a very useful feature for transferring data between Windows 10 and other suitable hardware.

Make Sure That You Are Using Device That Supports Wi-Fi Direct

Sending files over Wi-Fi Direct is faster and easier than Bluetooth.

However, first you need to make sure your device is Wi-Fi Direct compatible. To do this, press [WIN + R] and enter [CMD] to open a command prompt (you may use more). Then type [ipconfig / all].

If Wi-Fi Direct is available, you’ll see an entry titled “Microsoft Virtual Direct Wi-Fi Adapter”.

How to Transfer Files From Android to Windows or Vice-Versa With Wi-Fi Direct

Choosing the right one is important because using Wi-Fi Direct requires a third-party application.

Feem is software that provides Wi-Fi Direct support to Windows computers and Windows laptops since Windows 7 and Windows 8.

Feem is free to use, but has a variety of premium options. Feem’s Wi-Fi Direct is free, as is live chat. However, you can pay for iOS support, unlimited file transfer, and ad removal.

It’s easy to transfer data from Android to a PC or laptop using Feem.

  • Set Android as your mobile access point in Settings> Network & Internet> Hotspots and Tethering. Then connect your Windows PC to this network.
  • Start Feem on Android and Windows. You can see that both devices have unusual names depending on the application (eg Junior Raccoon) and password. Enter the password as you will need to make the first login.
  • Send a file from Android to Windows using Wi-Fi Direct, select the destination device, and click Send File.
  • Search the file and tap the upload file.

After a while, the data will be sent to the computer. It’s so easy – and it works the other way around!

Data Transfer Speeds For WiFi Direct

If you try all methods of data transfer, you will notice that WiFi Direct is much faster than Bluetooth. In fact, recent tests have shown that Bluetooth speed is like a turtle in comparison.

Wi-Fi Direct is not as fast as cable data transfer (such as USB 2.0 or USB 3.0), but it can transfer 1.5 GB files in less than 10 minutes. In contrast, Bluetooth takes about 125 minutes to transfer the same data.

Always Use Windows 10 WiFi Direct For Files Transfer

Which option you choose depends on the data you want to change. A USB 3.0 cable with compatible hardware is the fastest option. Wi-Fi Direct is coming soon and Bluetooth will be the third. Wi-Fi Direct is a good mid-range option, but it’s not as widely used (or known as Bluetooth), so you can opt for a cable instead.

Perhaps the most important aspect of using Wi-Fi Direct with Windows 10 is the ease of use today. After all, the initial application of this technology was somewhat difficult to use.
