How to Restore Deleted WhatsApp Chats
Did you accidentally delete the WhatsApp conversation and immediately regret it? Wondering if there is a way to get it back? Don’t worry, we’re here to help. Share how to reset the deleted WhatsApp conversation and a way to restore the WhatsApp chat replaced by iCloud or the Google Drive security copy. Before you try the steps, keep in mind that you can only restore the conversation if the backup option was first enabled on WhatsApp. This means that if you have never backed up your conversations, you will not be able to recover accidentally deleted messages or conversations.
To recover deleted WhatsApp messages, you need to enable the backup of conversations in the application settings. To do this, click the Settings tab at the bottom of iOS or open the More menu in the upper right corner and select Android Settings.
From there, go to Chat> Conversion Backup. Here (automatic backup on iOS and Google Drive on Android), WhatsApp offers many backup frequencies.
On Android, WhatsApp creates a local backup every night, but it doesn’t help if you lose your smartphone. This is why cloud backup is essential.
WhatsApp deletes old backup files when creating new backup files. The iPhone only retains the most recent backup files, while the Android version retains “up to 7 days” backup files. Keep this in mind when choosing the right backup that suits your needs.
With automatic daily backups, you can easily restore messages immediately after deleting them. Meanwhile, the weekly automatic backup allows you to go back in time to retrieve deleted WhatsApp messages at the expense of losing recent chat messages.

To enable chat backups, open WhatsApp and click Settings> Chat> Backup Backup. Here you can set the frequency of conversation backups to be absolute, daily, weekly or monthly. You can also make automatic backups. Additionally, if you are using an Android smartphone, you must select a Google account to save the backup.
For iPhone users, go to Settings in WhatsApp> Conversation> Create Security Backup. Here you can select the frequency of automatic backups or use Backup Now to manually start a backup on iCloud.

How to Restore Deleted WhatsApp Chats
Here are some ways to recover deleted WhatsApp conversations:
How to recover deleted WhatsApp messages
Want to know how to restore deleted WhatsApp messages after backing up? Just uninstall and reinstall WhatsApp on your device. When reinstalling the application, you will be prompted to restore your message history from the backup file. Click Restore to restore everything from your latest backup.
This WhatsApp deleted recovery method works on both Android and iOS if you have a backup. However, keep in mind that you must be within the selected automatic backup frequency. For example, if you set your application to back up daily, you can restore deleted conversations before the next daily backup.
Restore deleted WhatsApp chats via cloud backup
If you accidentally delete a conversation, it is possible that the conversation is in the backup of the cloud. Suppose your backup on Google Drive or iCloud took place at midnight and you accidentally deleted your conversations in the morning. The cloud backup still has a conversation and you can restore it. The method is as follows.
- Uninstall WhatsApp from your Android smartphone or iPhone.
- Reinstall WhatsApp and set your phone number.
- Once the application is set up, you will be prompted to restore the message from the cloud backup.
- This backup is done by Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iOS. Click Restore.
- This will return the message you accidentally deleted. If you received a message and deleted it after the last backup of the cloud, there is no way to recover it.
Restoring deleted WhatsApp chats via Android’s local backup
Another way to restore deleted WhatsApp conversations is to restore them from a local backup on your Android phone. This method does not work on iOS. If the Google Drive backup replaces your deleted messages, follow these steps:
Go to your smartphone’s file manager (if you can’t find this app, download the Google File app). Then go to the WhatsApp> Databases folder.
The database folder contains all the WhatsApp backup files that are stored locally on your phone.
Select the file msgstore.db.crypt12 and rename it to msgstore_BACKUP.db.crypt12. This is the latest backup file and needs to be renamed so that it is not replaced. If you encounter problems, you can always rename this file to its original name and restore it.
You should now see a series of files in this folder in the form of msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12. These are old backups of WhatsApp. You can select the latest backup and rename it to msgstore.db.crypt12.
This is the hard part. You need to open Google Drive on your smartphone and tap the hamburger icon (three vertical lines)> Create backups. Copy WhatsApp backup here. This will restore the phone from a local backup.
Then uninstall WhatsApp and then reinstall it. If specified, you will be prompted to restore the conversation from your local backup if you do not have a backup copy in the cloud.
Click [Reset] and that’s it. Delete deleted chat.
So these are two methods you can use if you accidentally delete WhatsApp chat or if you want to recently install WhatsApp and restore your old chat. In both cases, you must enable the backup copy option to restore messages, as explained above.
